Welcome to the Charity

Sarum St Michael Educational Charity supports religious education by giving grants to individuals and organisations. We can support students in further education pursuing a career in teaching Religious Education (RE) and those pursuing a career in Ministry. We also support parishes, schools and other organisations broadening religious education and increasing access to religions and world views.

The Charity focuses on those living, working, studying or operating in the Salisbury Diocese. However, individuals living or studying in neighbouring Dioceses (Bath & Wells, Bristol, Exeter, Oxford and Winchester Dioceses) may also apply. Please check the criteria closely.

The grants paid are to a maximum of £2,500, although the RE Teacher Retention Bonus is £3,000.

The Board of Governors meet four times a year to consider all types of applications.

History of the Charity

The charity was formed from the sale of proceeds of an Anglican college of education which closed in 1979. The location of which was in Salisbury, hence the close association with Salisbury Diocese.

The charity seeks to carry on the work of the original college by awarding grants to RE teachers during their training and likewise to Ministers. By awarding grants to organisations such as schools, parishes and small not-for-profits the charity hopes to increase access to religions and worldviews resources, again in the vein of education.
